If the Shoe Fits

I love shoes that beg for attention. . . that stand out. . . that have color! I vowed to wear colored shoes on my wedding day look long before I was engaged. I wore red high heels for my engagement pictures. I proudly flaunt turquoise shoes to brighten up my bland, black every day look at work.

My wedding colors are black, white, and sage green. I have been on a mission to find perfect green heels. . . within my budget. It seems that since green is also the color of money it takes lot to get fabulous green shoes that don't look cheap.

Yesterday I found the perfect pair of green shoes, but because Overstock.com only receives well, overstocks they didn't have it in my size. So, the more "bridal looking" version will have to. Meet my wedding shoes! They were only available in my size, which meant they called to me. They are Nine West, satin, and meant for me!

I love colored shoes, but lately I also love being "bridal." Sure I won't be able to wear these shoes lots after the wedding (unless I get brave with some DIY dye), but these shoes will make me feel bridal. . . right down to the tips of my toes!

What makes you feel "bridal?"

In my red high heels

I love fabulous shoes! After a tragic incident where B's dog chewed up my brand new Nine West red high heels I recently purchased a new pair. I'm in love. It has been like reuniting with a long, lost love. I think that a fabulous pair of red high heels brings spice to my normal black wardrobe and can make even the worst of days a little brighter (don't get me started on how painting your toenails can change your life).

I think my wedding day will be the happiest day of my life and I want to feel that happiness right down to my toes. So that's why I will insist on wearing brightly colored shoes with my wedding gown. Now I know that red or pink heels will not perfectly match my white (or ivory or champagne or whatever shade I choose) dress, but it's my wedding day and I want my feet to be happy.

My grandmother passed away from breast cancer, but as she fought the disease she always wore her "happy shoes" on the days that she went for chemotherapy. Her happy shoes are proudly displayed in my parent's house today as a constant reminder that life should be lived to the fullest (and in fabulous shoes)!

Wearing happy shoes on your wedding day is not a foreign concept. In fact, a recent cover of Brides magazine featured a bride dressed in white and showing off her bright pink heels. Just think of all the fun pictures you can take of your happy feet on your happy day.

What are you doing to "spice" up your happy day?

My first official wedding purchase: SHOES!

I know, it seems like a strange place to start, right? But let me explain. My dress (which I will refrain from showing online, lest C read the blog and sneak a peek) required a "hollow to hem" measurement before it could be ordered. That means that the lovely seamstress from White Lace & Promises measured me from the hollow of my neck to the floor. Therefore, I needed the shoes I was planning on wearing the day of so she could get an accurate measurement of how tall I will be that day.

So, once Mom & I decided to go with the dress we fell in love with at White Lace, it was time to search for shoes. Now, let me say to start with that I'm working on a budget. We're talking $8,000 max with a guest list of about 360. That's intense. Let me also say that my feet are microscopic. If I want a dress pump, I need a size 4. That's right, a 4. C likes it because my shoe size and my ring size are the same, so it's fewer numbers to remember. Finding shoes in such a tiny size is near impossible. I typically end up going with a 5 (if I'm lucky) or a 5 1/2, and trying to deal. Sandals typically fit better than pumps, too. So, while I could have gone with some gorgeous white heels from the bridal salon, I opted to check out some of the less expensive shoe stores first. Insert quest for inexpensive, cute, tiny, white sandals. And where did I find them? Rack Room. But the smallest size they had was a 6--way too big for my tiny peds. I asked them to check the surrounding stores for the shoe in a smaller size, with no luck. After I
went home and talked with my mom (Yes, I live at home, I'm a boomerang child and at peace with it...but that's another post), we decided to look for them online. And though you can't buy from Rack Room online, you can search their inventory & call the store to ask them to ship the shoes to your local store. My wedding shoes came to me from Florida, and they arrived the day before my measurement appointment. The price tag? Including the almost 10% Tennessee sales tax: $32.48. Not too shabby. Have you had to go to great lengths to get what you want and/or save a buck?
